Sunrise Acres is an Egg Farm located in Hudsonville Michigan. Sunrise Acres was
started by Marvin Patmos with 100 chickens in 1949. His two sons, Dick and Bill
Patmos took over day to day operations in the 1980’s. Today the third
generation, Doug and Joe Patmos who are Marvin’s grandsons, are learning the
family farm business.
We now have 1,700,000 layer hens which produce 44
million dozen eggs per year. We have our own feed mill to produce chicken feed
and grow replacement hens from baby chicks. Our three packing plants grade and
pack 1.4 million eggs the same day they are laid. We transport them to market
with the Sunrise Acres truck fleet.
Approximately 30 percent of our
markets are out of state, and that brings millions of dollars in revenue back
into Michigan each year. Our family also farms 7,000 acres of Michigan land to
produce corn and soybeans for our hens. Sunrise Acres is one of Michigan’s
largest grain buyers and employs 120 full and part-time people. Sunrise Acres
has always bought local grain to support other Michigan farmers and because it
makes sense for the environment. Grow local. Buy local.
We are proud to
support our local farmers by buying their grain and we always buy “Michigan
First!” with all of our supplies and needs. We participate in the United Egg
Producers Animal Welfare Program. We have all been taught by our parents to take
care of our animals as we were growing up. Our farms have a full HACCP program
for food safety and we voluntary participate in Michigan’s MEAP Plan (Michigan
Environmental Assurance Program).
Farmers were the first recyclers.
Sunrise animal waste (manure) is sold and trucked as solids to other Michigan
farmers, some of whom are organic farmers. We work carefully with Michigan DEQ
to insure our wastes do not end up in Michigan lakes and streams. We recycle all
of our paper and cardboard, batteries, metal, and waste eggs, among other
things.
We are proud to be a Michigan Farm Family that produces a
wholesome farm food for the People of Michigan and the USA to enjoy.
